To stay timely and successful, a company must not only watch trends in regard to the market, but one must watch human behavior. As these behavioral trends change and develop it is important that your internet marketing strategy changes as well.

Point Blank: You want your message where the eyeballs are.

These days people are going to the internet searching for information; not tv, radio, or printed publications. Americans are also becoming more educated consumers. In July of 2008 statistics show that 58% of consumers do online research before purchasing electronics (eMarketer), 71% do pre-purchase search engine based research for health related issues (comScore), and estimates show that as many as 88% do online research before buying a car.

This trend doesn’t only apply to the electronics, health, and automotive industries. ComScore reports that over 11.5 billion searches were conducted in June of 2008 alone. Another source estimates that 49% of Internet users complete at least one search a day (the PEW Internet and American Life Project).

Now, these are a lot of statistics from a lot of sources, but the point is simply this: no one ever says, “I’m interested in buying a (insert your product here.) Let me sit down in front of the tv and wait to see if a relevant commercial comes on…oh and I’ll get a pen and paper to make sure I copy down the phone number, URL, and address when it quickly flashes on the screen.”

They’re searching on the internet. How effective is your internet presence?
