The Importance of Testing for an Online Edge

There is a lot of buzz going on this week concerning testing, A B split testing and otherwise. The important thing to take from any of it is: TEST.

Test, TEST and TEST some more! The only way traffic increases, regardless of your end goals, is to get to the top of the search engines! So it’s important to know how to get there. The nitty-gritty comes down to this: We speculate. We read. We bounce ideas off one another; But when it comes down to it, there are search engine techniques; there are disambiguated random processes that make it impossible to truly “figure out” a search engine.

Still, this is the exhilarating, keeps-us-on-our-toes type spy-work we desire, the reason we dedicate our lives to search engine marketing strategies at all – and testing is central to any working theory, is it not?

Thus we must emphasize that the only way to predict the up-to-the-moment VSEO, SEO and general internet marketing techniques is to TEST! Of course, it is always essential that you know your market, the people that will purchase your products or services. Assuming you are aware of your customer base, there are main techniques that are essential for SEO:

  • Keyword Selection- choosing the phrases that consumers are searching, aiming for those with few (3 or less) major competitors.
  • Building Links- having reputable, relevant sites offering links to your site; timeliness also increases popularity of such links.
  • Build Social Networking- due to the popularity of sites such as Facebook and Twitter, having a presence on these sites increases online awareness.

There are various ways of conducting tests, and certain methods of testing work best for different needs. Depending on the size and scale of your online domain, and your testing resources, you will need to choose the most important variables to test.

A B Testing is an excellent method to apply to many marketing tests. Because of the basic scientific model, it can be used easily in online platforms for marketing purposes or SEO.

Depending on your website platform, your needs will vary. It is up to you to discover your methods for applying tests- and with the internet, the options are endless. Just remember that search engine algorithms are always changing- and testing is the only way to stay current!
