Philly.com Video Distribution to be Managed by Brightcove

June 12th, 2009 | Written by: Lauren N Bridges

Video distribution for Philly.com, the web portal for The Philadelphia Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer, has moved to Brightcove, an online video company that is the video platform chosen by more than 30 major newspaper groups across the globe.

With online video production by newspapers growing in the face of an eroding industry, Philly.com has “continued to grow our in-house production staff to support the growing audience for our content,” according to Philly.com Project Manager Jennifer Musser Metz in an article by Gavin O’Malley on MediaPost. Aside from the basic need for a new video platform, the change will expand video distribution and provide the opportunity for monetization.

However, Philly.com has been a big player in the online video game- The site has multiple online video series that cover local gossip, business and even travel. The keyword ‘philly.com video’ returns over 4 million results in Google.

Brightcove has enjoyed even greater success- in 2008, the total number of uploads to their video platform grew 1,500%. The video company handles the video platform for major corporations including GM, Discovery, Universal Music Group, and a slew of newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Condé Nast Publications. With Brightcove leading the video distribution for Philly.com, users will have more content to interact with and enjoy!
