Online Video Enjoys Fastest Growth in History of Media
Though online video content only started streaming into our lives three years ago, online video clips are now the fastest-growing form of media- Ever.
Research reported by online global research firm Lightspeed and web trend research consultancy Trendstream shows a number of impressive statistics about the online video community.
- In only one week, an astounding 97 million Americans viewed an online streaming video
- 72% of Internet users watch videos online- exceeding social networking members and blogs
- In a January survey of 1,000 active net users ages 16-65:
o 39% participated in online video sharing
o 31.5% post video online themselves
What is online video content made of?
- 27% are homemade
- 48% are created by digital camera
- 26% are created on a PC
- 22% are created on a mobile device
Who is the online video community?
- 82% of 16 – 17 year-olds and 65% of 55 – 64 year-olds watch online video
- 52% of 16 – 17 year-olds and 29% of 55 – 64 year-olds share online video
- 46% of 16 – 17 year-olds and 21% of 55 – 64 year-olds upload an online video clip
- Heaviest viewers are among 25 – 34 year-olds
