What do you call it when everyone in the Internet industry blogs about the same thing?
Another wire on the Search Engine War front!
OK, so I may not be good at jokes. And I’m guilty myself here. But after spending my entire day (yes, my entire day,) reading, wrinkling my brow and giggling at the latest news and varied responses to the revenue-sharing deal between Yahoo! and Microsoft’s Bing, I’m having a hard time sorting out my own thoughts. However, I had such a fun time reading what people had to say, I thought I’d share (and comment.)
“Say a big bully is beating up two small kids to take their quarters. It isn’t going to help for one small kid to give the other small kid all the quarters.” -John Dvorak, Market Watch
Nice analogy John! I encourage you to read this post, aside from giving me a few snickers, he brought up some valid points about whether or not this will have a real impact.
“…When your brand name becomes a verb [for search],” he says, referring to Google, “it can be game over for the rest of the pack…” -Jeff Hayzlett, CMO of Eastman Kodak
I found this quote in a great article by Suzanne Vranica and Emily Steel from WSJ.com, the Wall Street Journal’s home on the web. The article talks about advertising, and how the partnership will affect the field.
“They should be worried. It’s going to give Microsoft in one fell swoop a much bigger share of the search market.” -Danny Sullivan, editor of SearchEngineLand.com
This came from another Wall Street Journal article by Jessica E Vascellaro and Nick Wingfield. I don’t know what you think, but I just think this is funny. Either way, they’re competing with a 28% (ish) market share. Shortly thereafter, this quote follows:
“…Mr. Wiener said it remains unclear whether Yahoo and Microsoft will be able to greatly increase their current combined market share. ‘The only thing that can increase that is product development and smart marketing and there is nothing in this deal per se that changes that landscape…’ ” -Vascellaro and Wingfield on CEO of digital ad agency 360i, Bryan Wiener
Well said, Mr. Wiener.
“In the ultimate insult, even most of Microsoft’s employees used Google to conduct Internet searches from computers on the company’s internal network.” -Nick Wingfield, Wall Street Journal
I guess I got a little hooked on WSJ.com, but can’t you see why? That just goes to show why Live Search needed an overhaul. Wingfield went on to say that most employees now use Bing as their primary search instrument. However, the quote that tied it all together came from an article titled “What Site Owners, Web Developers & SEOs Should Know About The Yahoo Microsoft Deal.”
“The big question is will this partnership significantly change market share percentages… I just don’t see anything game changing here that will cause a mass exodus from the status quo.” Vanessa Fox, Contributing Editor, SearchEngineLand
I hope you have enjoyed these quotes. It seems that everyone has an opinion here- What’s yours? Have you found other funny or insightful quotes on “Bing-Hoo”?
